It makes more than sense; it makes for one of the most anticipated events on the 1998 Bluegrass release calendar. Even though we knew we had a winner on our hands with "Bluegrass '95", the first in this series, how could we know the album would receive the IBMA Recorded Event of the Year award? How could we anticipate reviews like the one given by Bluegrass Unlimited, which said, "Simply wonderful. If you like hot licks, you should buy this... Let us hope that next year, Pinecastle delivers a "Bluegrass '96" of comparable quality, and then onto '97, '98, '99..."
Well, we did deliver. "Bluegrass '96" and "Bluegrass '97" both garnered similar high praise from critics and fans alike, and now Vestal has done it again! Besides being the mastermind behind these projects, you probably know Scott as the banjo player for Continental Divide; recently, he added the Banjo Player of the Year award from the Bluegrass Now Fan's Choice awards to his growing list of credentials. Guitarist Jeff Autry, currently a member of The Larry Stephenson Band, returns for his third consecutive appearance on the "Bluegrass" series as do both Wayne Benson (mandolin, known for his outstanding work with IlIrd Tyme Out) and Mark Schatz (bass, frequently honored as Bass Player of the Year). Aubrey Haynie is another "third timer" to the series; he's well known as one of the most in-demand fiddle players on the scene (just ask people Like Continental Divide and Clint Black). The sextet is rounded out by Randy Kohrs on resophonic guitar; Randy was also a bandmate of Vestal in Continental Divide.
